In a powerful tribute to statesmanship and diplomacy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was conferred with The Officer of the Order of the Star of Ghana, the nation’s highest civilian honour awarded to a foreign leader this year. Presented by President John Dramani Mahama during PM Modi’s historic visit to Accra—the first by an Indian Prime Minister in over three decades—the honour acknowledges his outstanding contributions to global leadership and the strengthening of India–Ghana ties.
This distinction marks PM Modi’s 24th international award, underscoring his status as one of the most globally celebrated Indian leaders of our time.
About the Honour

The Officer grade—received by PM Modi—is symbolised by a seven-pointed star and ceremonial sash in red, yellow, and green, reflecting Ghana’s national colours and spirit.
A Tribute to 140 Crore Indians
Accepting the honour with humility, Prime Minister Modi dedicated the award to the people of India, stating:
“This honour is a tribute to the dreams of our youth, the richness of our culture, and the deep-rooted bond between India and Ghana. I accept it on behalf of 140 crore Indians.”
Elevating India–Ghana Relations
The visit marked the elevation of India–Ghana relations to a Comprehensive Partnership, spanning:
- Trade and Technology collaborations
- Support for Ghana’s ‘Feed Ghana’ initiative
- Establishment of a Skill Development Centre
- Expansion of ITEC and ICCR scholarships
- Launch of Jan Aushadhi Kendra for affordable healthcare
- Cooperation in vaccine manufacturing and UPI-based digital payments
PM Modi reiterated India’s commitment as a trusted development partner, reflecting the shared democratic values and aspirations of both nations.
A Beacon of India’s Global Presence
This latest honour further amplifies India’s rising stature on the world stage, especially in the Global South and African continent. PM Modi’s recognition by Ghana is more than ceremonial—it reflects a new era of diplomacy built on mutual respect, inclusive growth, and youth-focused development.
