Prime Minister Narendra Modi has lauded the achievement of 30 lakh households now powered by rooftop solar systems under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, describing it as a “commendable milestone” in India’s clean energy journey.
Responding to an update from Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi, he congratulated all beneficiaries who have adopted rooftop solar and highlighted how the initiative is turning “sunlight into savings and sustainability” for ordinary families.
Under the scheme, rooftop solar installations have already been implemented in 30 lakh homes across the country, strengthening energy security while reducing monthly electricity bills for households.
The government has set a larger target of reaching 1 crore households by 2026–27, with the scheme expected to add substantial rooftop solar capacity, cut carbon emissions over the long term and support green jobs in installation, maintenance and related services.
The Prime Minister emphasised that PM Surya Ghar is an integral part of the government’s efforts to build an energy-secure, green and future-ready India.
By encouraging households to generate their own electricity through rooftop solar, the scheme promotes self-reliance, supports India’s climate commitments and accelerates the transition towards a more sustainable energy mix.
