India Celebrates Olympic Day 2025 with a Powerful “Let’s Move” Call to Action

Communities around the globe came together to mark Olympic Day 2025, a celebration of sport, movement, and unity. Observed annually on June 23, Olympic Day honours the historic founding of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in Paris on this day in 1894 by Baron Pierre de Coubertin.

This year’s theme, “Let’s Move”, encouraged people of all ages and abilities to embrace physical activity, echoing the Olympic spirit of participation and inclusivity. Leading India’s celebrations were iconic athletes Abhinav Bindra and PV Sindhu, who inspired millions with heartfelt tributes and reflections on their Olympic journeys.

“Sport has the power to unite, uplift, and transcend boundaries,” said Abhinav Bindra, India’s first individual Olympic gold medallist. “On this Olympic Day, we celebrate that power — and salute the leadership of President Thomas Bach, whose legacy will echo across generations.”

PV Sindhu, a two-time Olympic medallist, echoed the emotion:

“There’s nothing greater than wearing the tricolour on the Olympic stage. It’s not just sport — it’s my land, my blood, my sweat, my tears.”

As the world looks ahead to the LA 2028 Olympics, cricket’s return to the Games has added new excitement. ICC Chairman Jay Shah, along with the BCCI, marked the day by urging fans to join the movement, reinforcing the importance of sport in building healthier, stronger communities.

In a unique initiative, the IOC, in collaboration with the Abhinav Bindra Foundation and Reliance Foundation, launched the “Let’s Move India +1” campaign — encouraging people to play, move, or work out with a partner, reinforcing the idea that sport is better together.

India’s Paris 2024 bronze medallist shooters Sarabjot Singh and Swapnil Kusale also joined the celebrations.

“This day reminds us of the dedication it takes to reach the Olympic stage,” said Sarabjot.
“After our performance last year, we feel the hopes of the nation are with us,” added Swapnil.

The day saw participation from other Olympic greats as well — from javelin champion Neeraj Chopra, table tennis veteran Sharath Kamal, to boxing star Nikhat Zareen — all sharing their Olympic pride and dreams for the future.

A Global Movement, Rooted in Local Pride

Since 1948, Olympic Day has aimed to promote physical activity across the globe, transcending borders, cultures, and backgrounds. India’s dynamic and heartfelt participation in 2025 once again proves that the Olympic spirit is not just alive — it is thriving.
