IIT Madras is launching its pioneering Applied AI Innovation Centre in Dubai’s CommerCity free zone, a bold move to supercharge AI-driven growth and cement the India-UAE technology alliance.
This first-of-its-kind facility, driven by the IIT Madras Global Research Foundation, will transform cutting-edge AI research into practical solutions, spotlighting Dubai as a springboard for regional and international AI breakthroughs.
Startup Powerhouse Takes Shape
The centre kicks off with six high-potential AI startups boasting a collective valuation nearing $118 million and expected to generate $281 million in revenues over five years. Backed by MCA Gulf as IITM Global’s Dubai partner, it creates a sustained ecosystem for AI deployment in sustainability-focused innovations.
The partnership gained momentum with an MoU inked during WORLDEF Dubai 2026, opened by Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, dovetailing with CEPA goals and the recent India AI Impact Summit in New Delhi.
Bridging Research to Real-World Impact
Under IITM Global’s guidance, the hub will commercialize AI advancements, spark IP development, unlock GCC market entry for startups, and spawn skilled jobs in smart cities, energy, logistics, and construction. This elevates Dubai’s stature in digital commerce and next-gen tech.
The initiative mirrors India’s rising global AI ambitions, building on PM Modi’s vision for top-tier AI leadership by 2047, while harnessing UAE’s innovation ecosystem for mutual economic gains
