This year’s theme, #BeatPlasticPollution, isn’t just a slogan. It’s a global call to action to tackle one of the most pressing environmental threats of our time. Every year, the world produces over 430 million tonnes of plastic, two-thirds of which quickly becomes waste—clogging our rivers, poisoning marine life, and even entering our own food systems.
But amid this challenge, hope rises.
“Young people across the world are calling on leaders loud and clearly to #BeatPlasticPollution this #WorldEnvironmentDay,” says Inger Andersen, Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme. “Why? Because they understand the impacts of plastic pollution on our environment, our bodies and their future.”
